Uniform Information
The Lawton Chiles Middle Academy uniform is worn daily as a symbol of school pride. Research has shown that uniforms make students feel self-confident and reduce distractions, promoting an academic atmosphere as well as a professional appearance.
If a student is not dressed appropriately, a parent will be called to bring proper clothing or a uniform will be loaned.
- Shirts must be tucked in at all times.
- Shirt sleeves may not be rolled up.
- Only white, black, navy blue, gray, or hunter green solid-colored crew neck undershirts. No long sleeve undershirts.
- LCMA jackets/cardigans must be worn properly or carried. They may not be tied upon the body.
Uniform Standard
Girls’/Boys’ pants and shorts:
- Fabric: 65% Polyester/ 35% Cotton Blend
- Khaki color
- Zippered with front closure
- No external back pockets
- Belt loops required
Hoods may not be worn on school campus per the Polk County School Board Code of Conduct.
Student ID Badges
Student Identification Badges will be provided to secondary students to ensure safety and security of students and staff. Students must wear the ID card at all times around the neck area when on school grounds. Students may purchase LCMA lanyards from LCMA PTSO or use their own as long as it is deemed appropriate and not offensive or disruptive.
Girls' Uniform
- Navy blue or hunter green short sleeve polo shirt purchased ONLY from Risse Brothers or the PTSO uniform shop. Optional: Navy blue or hunter green long sleeve polo shirt purchased ONLY from Risse Brothers or the PTSO uniform shop.
- Plaid pleated skirt purchased ONLY from Risse Brothers or the PTSO uniform shop.
- Skirts may not be rolled at the waist and must be no shorter than three inches above the knee. It is suggested that girls wear athletic shorts under their skirts. The shorts must not be visible.
- Khaki shorts must be no shorter than three inches above knee in length.
- Khaki pants may not drag on the ground or be excessively baggy or tight. No skinny pants or joggers are permitted. Must have waistband with belt loops.
Boys' Uniform
- Navy blue or hunter green short sleeve polo shirt purchased ONLY from Risse Brothers or the PTSO uniform shop. Optional: Navy blue or hunter green long sleeve polo shirt purchased ONLY from Risse Brothers or the PTSO uniform shop.
- Khaki shorts may not excessively baggy. Cargo shorts are not allowed.
- Khaki pants may not drag on the ground or be excessively baggy or tight. No skinny pants or joggers. Pants must have waistband with belt loops.
Accessories
Shoes may be purchased at the store of your choice. Both boys and girls may wear sneakers, flats, deck shoes or boots. For safety, shoes must be tied/fastened when possible. Shoes should be safe for using stairs.

Ankle or mid-calf length socks must be an identical pair. Girls’ hosiery/tights may only be navy blue, white, black or natural with no designs and must be close-toed.
Hats/hoods, sweatbands, bandanas and picks are not allowed. Only natural hair colors are permitted. No extreme colors (pink, red, blue, purple, burgundy, etc.) are permitted. No writing or designs may be shaved in the hair. Students must be neatly groomed. No personal grooming in the classroom or the Bistro.
Jewelry that distracts from the educational focus (nose piercing, body piercing, body decorations, larger than quarter-size or noisy earrings and noisy bracelets) may not be worn.
Special Days
Students may wear clothes of choice, adhering to the criteria set forth in the Polk County Code of Conduct and student handbook. All clothing must be free of rips, tears, and fit the student appropriately at the waist. The hem of girls’ skirts and dresses shall be no shorter than mid-thigh as determined by the principal or designee in the exercise of his or her judgment. Shorts shall be no shorter than mid-thigh as determined by the principal or designee in the exercise of his or her judgment. Tops may not be low cut. No sweatpants, joggers, overalls, yoga pants, gym shorts, running shorts, leggings, tank-tops or P.J.’s. Shirts do not need to be tucked in. No flip-flops, slides, crocs, slippers or sandals without backs.
Students may wear a non-uniform jacket on top of their uniform. However, once school begins, all non-uniform jackets MUST be placed in their lockers.
Students may wear school-sponsored shirts (LCMA club organization or sports jersey) untucked with uniform bottoms or long blue jeans without holes or tears.
Other Guidelines
Backpacks are allowed to be carried throughout the day. No rolling backpacks.
BYOD: Students may bring approved devices (IPads, tablets, cell phones and headphones) for use with teacher discretion. Electronics (including headphones) should not be out between classes, in the Bistro or locker room.
